Loving Sympathy to Nancy, John, Peggy, Mary, Peter, Neil, and Melanie, & all family members, and the many who feel close enough to be "almost family". Judith and John were so much part of Barss Corner that tributes can scarcely be separated,, theirs was an exemplary union, their children known to uphold the good things they carry forth as taught by loving parents.
Judith was my personal mentor, in music, being my first piano teacher, encouraging me in singing in Church Choir, and
taking me to Hospital Chorus and Concerts. She was a humble, dedicated and talented musician sharing her talents to
encourage others. Her solos were highlights for all of us. Judith was an excellent homemaker and gardener, but even
above that I treasure the close relationship we had bringing up our combined families of 12 children in our homes on
the corner of the Barss Corner -Farmington Roads.... and never a cross word between us. We were one big happy bunch.
Tributes would not be complete without mentioning that even when she was in the Special Care Homes, she would assist
me with genealogy by phone. For our History Books of "Around The Corner" and "Strong Foundations", Judith was
so instrumental in providing data that we could not have written them without her. I am so very thankful for her
retentive memory, her attention to details, but most of all for guidance throughout the years. I think of her now
enjoying the heavenly gardens and beautiful music. God bless you all as we remember, Marlean (Taylor) Rhodenizer

I have so many memories of "Audy Judy" I could not possibly set them out all here. She was a presence in my life for as long as I can remember being alive having grown up next door to her, but some are thecountless mornings waiting for the school bus in her home...play dates inside and out with her children, fun times watching John's home movies, singing in choirs under her able direction and later watching her age with grace and dignity. I was delighted to receive yellow primroses from her magnificent garden when I moved to Dartmouth in the late 1990's and took some of them to my subsequent homes in Cole Harbour and New Minas. As they spread I gifted some to others and now stands of them flourish in gardens in Tantallon and near Peggy's Cove along with my old properties. I was delighted several summers ago when Peggy and Melanie arranged for Aunt Judy to come visit my New Minas home for a "garden tour" and an afternoon of sharing memories. I was amazed she remembered stories I had forgotten and delighted to hear some I had never heard before. She was a true legend in the Barss Corner Community. How she every found time to raise such a large family and create such beautiful gardens along with all her community, music and theatre activities (I was in the Hospital Chorus with her for Wizard of Oz) is beyond me. One cannot I suppose say "gone too soon at the age of 104" but one can say "unable to replace." My sincere condolences to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

So sorry for the loss of my dear friend Judith. We became very close, sharing family ties. Our Fathers both owned a general store. We sang together, made sure we wore our jewelry, and so much more. So nice to be welcomed by her family. You are very close knit and we’re there for her always. I miss her so, and have great memories to treasure. You are in my prayers, knowing she is in Gods hands is a blessing. Love you, God Bless.

It was my extreme fortune to grow up next door to "Aunt Judy" and "Uncle John". My chosen profession of a life as a musician was certainly shaped and influenced by both of these amazing people. The girls' choir and the Sr choir at the church both afforded me great experience that has stayed with me throughout my career. I mentioned this when I visited Judith at Maplestone and she brushed it off as "I didn't do much" but I know how important those early experiences were for me. John also was a supportive "fan' encouraging me to play my violin at church when it certainly was not very lovely to listen to. One of my goals was to make John Mader cry when I played - but to do so because he liked it! These two people were exemplary in their kindness to others, their lives of service to their church, community and country and for making a difference in the lives of all who knew them. Judith was a bright light and we will all miss her as well as remembering her life well lived.

To all the Mader family..my sincere condolences on the loss of a very vibrant and caring lady. In junior high I had the privilege of staying at the Mader home while attending a youth meeting with John. I remember being in awe of how she ran a household with so many children and still had time to help out in the store and community. I kept up with some of the Mader happenings when I worked at the hospital with Melanie. I also remember seeing your mother out with several daughters at the Esquire Restaurant a few years ago…when I stopped to speak to her she said I know what family you belong to…just not sure which one I was! This incredible lady will be remembered for a long time.

Dear Melanie (Melly Belly), Nancy, John, Peggy, Mary, Peter, and Neil and family,
I was deeply saddened to hear of your mom’s passing. I have so many memories of your mom that span my early childhood to more current years. Attending church and Sunday School, singing in her Sweet Harmony youth choir and then many years later, singing with her in the adult choir was a pleasure. Seeing her pop into the store, driving by to see her either strolling or working in her beautiful gardens, listening to her sing…oh my, it was truly a source of joy for me. When I stopped at the house there was usually the lingering aroma of baked goods. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention her many years of volunteering at Rosedale Home for Special Care. Without fail Mrs. Mader arrived on Friday mornings for sing with and for residents. I marveled how she was well past the average age of our residents, yet she was joyfully serving others. She taught me all the old war time favourites so after her diminishing eyesight made it too difficult to continue, I was able to fill in (a meagre substitute was I). I will always remember Mrs. Mader with deep respect and affection.
I’m thinking of you all and will be praying for you. May God comfort your grieving hearts and may you feel His loving spirit near you now. Psalm 147:3
Love and prayers, Crystal Leary
