Obituary of Marjorie Kathryn Silver
Marjorie Kathryn Silver
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Marjorie Silver (nee Conrad). Born and raised in Bridgewater, she lost her own mother, Rita, at an early age and was lovingly nurtured by her Grammy Spry and her father, Aubrey. Marjorie and her sister Evelyn grew and flourished in their childhood home on Aberdeen. Marjorie met her lifelong companion and soulmate, Karl Silver during her high school years. They continued to love and live in Bridgewater as they settled on “The Hill” and raised their family, son James (Debbie Hutchison and daughter Jenny) Ottawa; twins, Karla (MJ Blakey), Dartmouth and Kathy (Gary Crowell), Second Peninsula. She was predeceased by her parents, Aubrey and Rita Conrad; husband Karl Silver, sister Evelyn Vogler (Lloyd Vogler). She devoted herself selflessly to her husband and children. Their home saw few tears and much laughter. She encouraged her children to think and act as strong, responsible citizens of their communities. By example, her children learned a strong work ethic and a gentle tenderness towards those with no voice and a love of nature. She faced many health challenges in life and believed with positive thinking, tenacity and luck on her side, she could rise above the pain. Her retirement years were spent in the welcoming community of Second Peninsula where she could get that beloved “breath of fresh air”. The final year of her life was spent with those of her own age at Ridgewood Retirement Center. We would like to sincerely thank her many friends in her hometown of Bridgewater, her adopted home Second Peninsula, Lunenburg and her Angels “in Sketchers” of Ridgewood for their love, support and condolences. Thanks also to Dr. Robertson and nursing staff of 3A for their compassionate care they gave our mother. She leaves us with a fervent hope for a kinder, gentler and more tolerant world and in this special season of hope, Peace on Earth. There will be a private committal service in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Nova Scotia or SHAID Animal Shelter. Please join us for a celebration of our mother’s life at the family home at 135 Second Peninsula Rd. from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan 2, 2015. Arrangements entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater, where on-line condolences may be made by visiting www.sweenysfuneralhome.com or by messaging condolences@sweenysfuneralhome.com.
