Shirley Dorothy Sutherland
72, of Rhodes Corner, Lunenburg County, passed away April 27, 2002 at the Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. She was born in Hebbville on December 18, 1929, the daughter of the late Fraser and Evelyn (Dean) Shand. She graduated from Bridgewater High School before marrying Donald, a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force on July 9, 1949. As a military wife, she travelled extensively and called many places home throughout the years. She was employed as a stenographer at CFB Halifax before returning to Hebbville to care for her mother in 1975 after the death of her father. She returned to work at the Fishermen’s Memorial in the Records Department where she worked until her retirement in the early eighties. After her retirement, she remained active in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion. She is survived by her husband, Donald; three children, Sherry (John), Hebbville; Ken (Jean) Kingston, Ontario; Thorne (Joanne), Blockhouse; 6 grandchildren; brother, Carroll, Hebbville. A public graveside service will be held 2pm Saturday, May 4, 2002, in the Hebbville Cemetery, Rev. Penny Klepic officiating. There will be no flower or visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shaid Animal Shelter, Canadian Cancer Society or the N S Heart and Stroke Foundation through Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. www.sweenysfuneralhome.com
