Obituary of George Smith

George Percy Patrick Smith 85, of Bridgewater, passed away July 8, 2001 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Percy and Rita (Flemming) Smith. George was a grocery store manager for Acadia Stores, Dominion Stores, Shamrock Stores and then owned and operated Smith’s General Store, Hemford until his retirement in 1979. He is survived by his wife Ellen (Spidell); sons Donald (Mary Ann), Bruce (Mary Elizabeth), both of Mahone Bay; a daughter Elaine (David) Holland, Oakhill; grandchildren, Stephen, Blair, Louise, Donna and Joel; great grandchildren, Brandon and Brittany; brothers, Douglas, Kamloops, BC; Berton, Lakeside; sisters, Catherine Almira Forbes, Halifax; Marguerite Barron, Spryfield; Edith Flemming and Ellen McCorry, both of Herring Cove. He was predeceased by brothers, Gordon, Arthur, Charles, Alfred and Roy in infancy. Visitation will be held this evening from 7 to 9pm and Tuesday evening from 7 to 9pm in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service will be held 2pm Wednesday in the Pleasantville Baptist Church, Rev. Doug Porter officiating. Burial will follow in the Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Pleasantville Baptist Church, the Alzheimer Society of NS; the South Shore Regional Hospital Foundation or charity of your choice.
