Obituary of Frederick Fowke

Frederick Everett Lincoln Fowke, QC 87, died peacefully at Harbour View Haven on October 1, 2003 after a long and happy life. Son of Frederick Luther Fowke and Flora (Wheeler) Fowke, he was born in Oshawa, Ontario on October 22, 1915. Following his early education in Oshawa, he attended Osgoode Hall Law School. After serving as Captain in Europe in the Second World War, he established his law practice in Bridgewater. Much respected in his field, he practiced law for many years and laterally served as Crown Prosecutor in Lunenburg County. Active in town and community affairs, he was a past president of Royal Canadian Legion, branch 24, Bridgewater, member of the Liberal Association and a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Bridgewater and St. Stephen’s in Chester. He cherished his memories of boyhood, summers in Chester, his father having brought the family to Nova Scotia during his tenure as a relief Commissioner following the Halifax Explosion. He loved sailing on the waters of Mahone Bay with his family and was a great lover of books and student of history, having an extensive private library. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret and older sister Adeline. He is survived by his sister Shirley, son John, daughter Mary and grandson Miguel Frederick. Visitation for family and friends, 1 – 3 p.m., Sunday in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service 11 a.m., Monday at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Bridgewater. Archdeacon John Clarke officiating. Interment will take place at 1 p.m. in Bayview Cemetery, Chester. Donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.
