Obituary of Ada Jorgensen

Ada Lydia Jorgensen (Himmelman) 86, of Bridgewater, Lunenburg Co., passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2003 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in LaHave, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Edna (Josey) Himmelman. She was educated at teacher’s college and then furthered her education in her 60’s taking summer courses at Acadia University and then finishing her Bachelor of Arts. at St. Mary’s University, graduating in 1970. She taught schools in Pleasantville, Dartmouth, Forbisher Bay and Dublin Shore, she retired as a remedial teacher at Center Consolidated School. She served as a Wren in New York during the Second World War. She belonged to the Royal Canadian Legion branch 24, Bridgewater, where she served as secretary for the Memory Club. She was a member of the Retired Teacher’s Association and member of St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, Conquerall Bank and Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Bridgewater. She was Past Matron of the May Chapter #38 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a foster parent to several children for the past 25 years. Surviving her sister, Loretta Howie and brother Brady (Ramona) Himmelman, all of LaHave; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Johan, sister, Elfleda a brother James in infancy, step brothers, Fletcher, Ace, Bill, Tom and Harlon Butler, step sisters, Margaret, Reta, Emma. Visitation will be held Thursday, 2-4 , 7 – 9 p.m., with an Eastern Star service at 6 p.m. and public legion tribute service at 7 p.m., all in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service 2 p.m., Friday in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Bridgewater. Archdeacon John Clarke officiating. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Burial will be in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens at a later. Family flowers only, donations may be made to St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, South Shore Regional Hospital Foundation or charity of choice.
