Obituary of Andrew Wentzell

Andrew Paul Wentzell 1918 – 2004, Upper Northfield, passed away very peacefully January 12, 2004 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. He was born in Wentzell’s Lake and was the son of Paul and Amelia (Rhodenizer) Wentzell. During his early days on the farm, he took many opportunities offered in hunting and salmon fishing. He was the surveyor of the Wentzell Mill Co. In 1940, he married Ena Margaret MacKay by whom he is survived. He was a supporter of the Upper Northfield United Church and was always keenly interested and active in the affairs of the community. He was a member of the Canadian Air force for 4 years and spent time serving in Moncton, several bases in Ontario, Gander, Newfoundland, which was at the time, an overseas station and Comox, B.C. Following the war he worked with Rafuse Motors in Bridgewater for 15 years. In 1960, he opened the service station in the Bridgewater Plaza which was then known as White Rose, but was changed later to Andrew’s Shell. He was a founding member of the local chapter of National Campers and Hiking Association and held offices nationally, provincially and locally. With the fellowship afforded by this organization, he and Ena enjoyed many trips and socializing with many people both in Canada and the USA. Besides his wife, Ena, he is survived by brother-in-law, Foster MacKay; nieces and nephews in Ontario and by special friends throughout the years, Earl and Norma Bushen and their families. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by 2 sisters, Florence and Jessie; 2 brothers, Lee and Carroll. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 7 to 9pm in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service will be held 3:30pm Thursday in the Upper Northfield United Church, Rev Joan Conrad officiating, assisted by Rev William Gustafson. Private family burial will follow in the Old Upper Northfield Cemetery. Memorial donations will be gratefully accepted for the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, Upper Northfield United Church or the charity of your choice.
