Obituary of Cecil Parsons
J. Cecil Parsons
80, of Pentz, passed away May 16, 2001 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Hermitage, NFLD, he was the son of the late John and Sarah (Simms) Parsons. He went to sea from 1932 at age 12, fishing on the Grand Banks. He skippered several fishing and coastal schooners from 1940 to 1953, and was captain on deep sea cargo ships from 1953 to retirement in 1983. He was an active member and warden of St. Peter’s Anglican Church since his retirement. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Mary D. E. Rose; daughter Lorraine (John) Drummond, Crooked Lake; sons Stanley (Priscilla) Parsons, Greenwood; Lawrence Parsons, St. John NB; grandchildren Cindy, Lorne, Darrin, Denise, Carla, Amy, Scott, Kari-Lynne, Laurie, Cory; great-grandchildren Caitlyn, Lindsay, Emily, Andrea, Larissa, Justin, Cassie, & MacKenzie; sisters Myrtle Engram, Halifax; Marjorie (Edward) Colborne, Bedford; brothers Albert (Bessie) Parsons, Pentz; sister-in-law Susie Parsons, Halifax. He was predeceased by a son Cecil in infancy, brothers James and Stanley. There will be no visitation at the funeral home by request. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Peter’s Anglican Church, West LaHave, with Rev. Michael Hawkins officiating. Burial in St. Peter’s Cemetery, West LaHave. A receptions will follow in St. Peter’s Church Hall. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to St. Peter’s Anglican Church. Arrangements entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater.
