Obituary of Phyllis MacKay MacKay

of Phyllis MacKay (Wright) MacKay 86, of Hebbville, Lunenburg County died peacefully on Thursday, December 18, 2008, at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, after a brief illness. Born in Riversdale, Colchester County, she was the daughter of the late Laurie Muir and Gertrude Edna (MacLean) Wright. She was a graduate of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College, Truro. During WW II Phyllis trained to be a riveter and was employed repairing Lancaster Bombers. In 1947, she and her husband Lawrence moved to the Bridgewater area, and built their home in Hebbville in 1953. She was an active member of Bridgewater United Church. An avid rug hooker, she belonged to several area groups and was a founding member of the rug hooking guild. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening and baking for family and friends. Phyllis is survived by her children, Curtis MacKay, Edmonton, Lex (Lowell MacPhee) MacKay, Lunenburg and Scott (Pauline) MacKay, Conquerall Mills, sisters, Grace Bethel, Truro, Margaret Harcus, Edmonton, Alexa (Andrew) MacKay, Halifax, Ann (Curtis) Clarke, Truro. “Ma’am” will be deeply missed by grandchildren, Kristen MacKay, Jennie (Nathan Freeman) MacKay, Kiel MacKay, Claire (Chris Wagner) Smith, Matthew (Ashley MacKay) MacKay and Mercedes MacKay, sister-in-law, Helen MacKay, Truro and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence A., her brother Jim Wright and several sisters and brothers-in-law. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the C.F. Sweeny Funeral Home, 60 Phoenix Street, Bridgewater where visitation will be held on Monday, December 22nd, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A service to celebrate Phyllis’ life will be held at Bridgewater United Church on Tuesday at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place at a later date in Hebbville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bridgewater United Church, or Bridgewater Interchurch Food Bank. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.sweenysfuneralhome.com.
