Obituary of Dorothy Mae DeLong

 

DELONG, Dorothy Mae – the family of Dorothy Mae DeLong, of Barss Corner, Lunenburg County, is very sad to announce her passing at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater on Sunday, January 5, 2020 at the age of 95. She had resided in Mahone Nursing Home, Mahone Bay for the past 2 years.

Born in Simpsons Corner, Lunenburg County, on December 23, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Sadie (Joudrey) Emino.

Dorothy was an active member of the Epworth United Church, New Germany and was involved in various aspects of the church over many years, including the Board of Stewards. She was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary, Branch No. 102, in New Germany, having served as President, Sergeant of Arms, as well as on the Catering and Executive committees. She also did volunteer work with the community of Barss Corner. She was employed for 25 years at DeLong Farms, Barss Corner. Her devotion to family and friends, as well as her joy of life will be remembered by all who knew her.

Dorothy will be sadly missed by daughters, Barbara (Dwight) Grimm, Prospect, Kings County; Catherine (David) Rhodenizer, Barss Corner; grandchildren, Shawn (Nadine), Dartmouth; Todd (Linda), Riverview, NB; Ryan (Francine), Beaver Bank; Jonathan (Allie), New Elm. Great-grandchildren, Evan, Bryce and Riley Grimm; Owen, Gracie and Leigh Rhodenizer; sister, Pauline Woodworth, New Minas; sister-in-law, Judith Mader, Halifax and many nephews and nieces.

She was predeceased by husband, Fred; brothers, Hallett, Aubrey and foster brother, Charlie Sapp.

We wish to thank Dr. Raymond, the nurses and staff at the Mahone Nursing Home for the care and compassion they gave to Mom over the last 2 years. She always spoke very highly of everyone. Thanks to Jean for being such a lovely roommate. Special thanks to the staff in the Emergency department of the hospital for being so caring during her brief stay. We appreciate it very much.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home by request. Service of Remembrance will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, January 11, 2020 in Epworth United Church, New Germany. Rev. David Lutes officiating. Reception will follow the service. Interment will take place at a later date. Family flowers only, donations may be made to the Barss Corner Community Hall, Epworth United Church or the New Germany and Area Medical Centre.
