Please accept my sincere condolences to his family and know that my thoughts and prayers are with you during this most sensitive time.

I worked with Mr. Douglas at Dover for 4 years before his retirement. You could always hear him coming down the hall as he jiggled the change in his pocket non-stop. We kept in touch occasionally over the years. Lastly when he was in Brookfield, not far from my hometown. After his retirement he always encouraged me to call him Mel but I never could do it, he was always Mr. Douglas. He was a true gentleman. My condolences to his family and friends.

Dear Nancy, Bill, Ron and Family,
Your dad belonged to an immortal organization, VETERANS. It is our job but moreso, it is our DUTY and HONOR to remember Mel and his peers who, among other things, gave us the very very high standard that we've spent our lives trying to live up to.
I'm sure he made a lot more friends sending Hershey Chocolate to school with his kids than he ever did during the war. That said, he lived an incredible life and accomplished incredible things. He flew a bloody Spitfire for heaven's sake. All those movies we grew up watching like 'Battle of Britain, Dunkirk, Finest Hour' and the rest were movies made about your dad, and all the other Mels, true HEROS, every one. He was part of rescuing the world from tyranny. We, who are left can only hope to achieve and accomplish a tiny fragment of your father's legacy. We are not defined by the dementia that took us out, we are defined by the marvelous contribution we made for that other great big hunk of our life. Be sad for a short while but be very Proud for the rest of your life......with love, Gerry, Fellow Veteran
