Obituary of Violet Alice Copeland
Copeland, Violet Alice “Vi”, age 99 of Bridgewater passed away peacefully July 8, 2020 in South Shore Regional Hospital following a short illness. Born in Lunenburg in 1921, she was the third of five children of the late Robert and Mabel Backman of Lunenburg.
Trained as a certified pharmacy technician, Vi worked at Kinley’s Drug Store in Lunenburg and Goddard’s Pharmacy in Bridgewater. Vi was involved with many community organizations namely the Dawson Daisy Thrift Store which supports the South Shore Regional Hospital and the Bridgewater Kinsmen & Kinette Club. She was a member of the Bridgewater Curling Club and Unit 7 of the Bridgewater United Church.
Vi was a lifelong reader who passed her love of books onto her daughter and granddaughter. Her family will miss her quick wit, frank opinions and her feisty personality – there was no one quite like Violet!
Violet is predeceased by her husband of 64 years Lawrence Copeland and her four siblings.
She is survived by her son Robert (Christine) Copeland, Brighton, ON; daughter Judith “Judy” (Glen) Langille, Bridgewater; Granddaughter Anne (Nick) Cox, Halifax; great-grandchildren, Maria and Claire Violet Cox; Step-Grandchildren Lynn Langille, Campbell River, BC and Todd Langille, Calgary, AB; Step-Great-Granddaughters, Emily Schwartz, Victoria, BC; Meghan Schwartz, Kelowna, BC; Sophie Langille, Halifax,; and many nieces and nephews.
Vi’s family would like to give a heartfelt and sincere thank you to Madonna Scott for her many years of help, kindness and support. Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Cremation has taken place with a service to be held at a later date.
