I had the pleasure of knowing Dave when I worked at Eyretechnics Ltd. (Atlantic) in Dartmouth and he was the General Manager. He was such a friendly and engaging man, a real people person who was liked by all. My deepest sympathies go out to Cheryl and all the family.

Dear Dora and family,
We have been thinking of you all since you Dora shared the sad news of Dave’s passing.
Dave’s friendship and yours Dora was a big part of Jim’s life, starting in 1954 when they joined the navy. Linda is happy she got to know you both and that we could spend time together on the east and west coasts, cruises to Hawaii & Alaska, wine tours to Greece & South Africa and more visiting in Ontario when you were here. We both have lots of very good memories that make us smile. You will hear many times over the next while and always actually that Dave was a great man and it is so true. We are so glad to have known him, had his great friendship and recipes and cooking tips. Dave, when we serve your salmon everyone exclaims “this is the best salmon I’ve ever had”. Dora and family, please take good care of each other. We will stay in touch. Linda Kress & Jim Paul

Oh my, I hardly know what to say. We are so saddened to have lost someone who has been our treasured friend for over half of our lives. Jim and I first met Dave and Dora in 1974 when they moved in beside us on Jonathan Pack St. in Stittsville. We became fast friends and I can still remember fighting back tears as their moving van pulled away and they were moving back to the east coast. They returned to live in Stittsville twice more for extended periods of time, over the years, moving back to Halifax about a year and a half ago
Through it all we visited often. During their first stint back east, they built the cottage in Elmwood, where we spent many fun times. When Dave was drilling the well at the cottage, he even flew Jim down to complete the installation. We vacationed with them and even did three cruises with them,. One of the cruises was their 50th anniversary cruise..They did not know that we were joining them, until they boarded the ship and found us waiting to greet them
They shared many memorable occasions with us even when they had to travel far to do so. They also did many unannounced visits. Yes, you just never knew when the doorbell would ring and they would be standing there. So Dave, when I ring that doorbell to Heaven, you had better be answering and looking surprised
Dave was, what could only be called "personality plus". Jim always referred to Dave as his "military adviser" and whenever something big would happen in the world he would call to get Dave's take on it. Dave always called Jim "the coach" and often the phone would ring at the end of the first period to get Jim's take on what was happening in the game. Sometimes they would even sit on the phone and watch the balance of the game together . However Dave would get some ticked off when, due to the wonders of the cable system , Jim would get to see the goals about three seconds before he did. So many fond memories, I could write a book, and maybe I will so that later.
So to Dora and family, please know that we grieve with you. As I silently wipe away a tear I send Love from Marion and Jim

We were shocked and so sad to hear of Daves passing. Our heartfelt condolences to you and your family Dora and we know what a loss Dave means to the family. Dave was the ultimate sailor who rose through the ranks on his initiative and drive. He was a people person and could relate to junior ranks, since he had been one of them and knew how to provide guidance and inspiration. I will never forget meeting Dave as he flew in on the helicopter to join us on the Kootenay and relieve a good friend Al Kennedy who was badly burned. I thought at the time that he had a huge task to provide talent and expertise to assume the job, however he did it exceedingly well. I had the pleasure of working with Dave on the Kootenay/Restigouche conversion in Halifax Shipyards and was proud to call him a friend. Jean and I wish you well Dora and if we can help out just call.

Dear Dora and family, we are very sorry to hear of your loss; our hearts go out to you. Dave was a wonderful man with a kind heart, great sense of humour, and a keen intellect. He was a consummate professional and brave seafarer who contributed greatly to the marine industry and to the Canadian Navy. He was a mentor to me in our many enjoyable years together at LAL Marine Technical Services and I credit him for positively influencing my professional career and personal life. Dave was a project and people guy who worked hard to ensure that his projects and the people he worked with met with success. I will always remember him and I will always have a soft spot in my heart for him. Rory and Donna

I am so sorry for your family’s loss Dora, Cheryl and Trevor, I know what a huge hole Dave’s passing will leave in your hearts and lives. I am so sad for all the grand and great grandchildren who will miss out on the best of stories from their beloved Buppa, who, I just discovered, was also known as ‘biggest liar in the world’. I’m grateful that I also had the opportunity to listen to some of those elaborate stories and can’t help but smile at the memory. I fondly remember enjoying Dave’s kindness, generosity and witty sense of humour whenever I was with him. I want you to know that you’re all in my thoughts and on my mind while I send you peace and love... and wish I could do so in person.
Sincerest condolences from my heart to yours, Love Kelela
