Obituary of Lloyd Franklin Wentzel

Lloyd Franklin Wentzel
91 of Maplewood, Lunenburg County, died peacefully at home on October 18th 2008 in the company of his family and caregiver. He was born in Maplewood, Lunenburg County on June 5th, 1917 to the late Cornelius and Aminella (Spidel) Wentzel. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family. In his early years he farmed, worked in the mill and did carpentry work. In 1955 he and Muriel moved to Halifax where he worked for McDow and Blunden’s construction as a carpenter. He took great pride in his home and work. He was a faithful member of Mulgrave Park Baptist Church during his stay in Halifax and also the Emmanuel United Baptist Church in Parkdale; he was a choir member at both churches. He loved to sing and was a member of the New Germany Men’s Choir. He was also a member of a number of community groups; an active member and past Grand Master of Hillcrest Masonic Lodge 93 in New Germany; he was chairman of the board for 51 years of the Parkdale-Maplewood Community Museum, he and Muriel were instrumental in the construction and development of the main exhibition hall. He was a founding member of the Parkdale-Maplewood Agriculture Society and serviced on numerous committee’s and positions. He was on the Board of Directors of the Home for Special Care in New Germany. He is served by his nephews Roger (Florence) Wentzel, New Cornwall and Wilbert (Bonita) Wentzell, Deep Cove; nieces Beatrice (Murrice) Witherall, Bedford; Pearl (Allan) Foster, Parkdale and Mabel (Fred) Witherall, Deep Cove. He also leaves behind his four care workers Karen, Valerie, Bernadette and Toni who lovingly cared for him for the past 3 years. Without them he would not been able to stay at home. He was predeceased by his loving wife Muriel (Milton LeBlanc); brother Martin Lowell and George Neil; nephew Lowell Martin. Visitation will be 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm Tuesday October 21 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, New Germany, 4895 Highway 10, with a Masonic Lodge service at 6:45pm prior to visitation. Funeral service will be held 2 pm Wednesday October 22 in Emmanuel United Baptist Church, Parkdale, with burial to follow in the Parkdale-Maplewood Community Cemetery. Rev. Jennifer Joudrey and Rev. Vaughan Henshaw officiating. Family Flowers only, please.
