Sam and Dale Elsworth posted a condolence

Heartfelt condolences to Sheila's family from Dale and Sam Elsworth. Roy and Sheila were great friends and neighbours during the time we all lived together on Empire Street. Dale's favourite memory of Sheila is of a long ago day in April, when Sheila was out on her front lawn, her hair up in curlers and wearing a two-piece bathing suit, while madly shoveling snow off the lawn onto the driveway where it would melt more quickly. She just wanted the snow GONE! Dale took her picture and told Sheila she was sending it to the "Bulletin", (our weekly newspaper). You can imagine the reaction that drew from Sheila! Our older children fondly remember Roy and Sheila sitting at the living room window, doing their puzzles and waving to them as they headed for school. Good memories of wonderful neighbours. We will hold you in our thoughts and prayers.

The memories of life growing up on Empire St certainly come flooding back when chatting about your mom. Walking to school together almost every day, bobsledding down Empire in the winter time, playing ball on the old Empire Street ball field, biking to favovourite swimming spots.... Parents, like your mom and dad, gave us certain freedoms our kids didn't really get to experience, provided we didn't screw things up to badly. If we did, we certainly heard about it. I seem to remember your mom always had a picture puzzles on the go, sitting in the front window of the house. Deepest sympathies to you both.. She'll be missed by both of you, and your families.

To Peter and Paul and your families,
Our sincere condolence to you for the loss of Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma. Sheila called herself my adopted Grandma shortly after our family moved next door to her and Roy back in 1977. Countless fond memories flood my mind, but laugh most about Sheila yelling at me to "do that jacket up!” on my way to school. Her molasses cookies were my favourite, her big smile warm and inviting, and her love for her boys and their recent accomplishments was always part of the conversations.
Recent fond memories include taking Sheila for dinner at Swiss Chalet then a drive to see Christmas lights. Anna and I enjoyed doing this with her and I know these were special times for her too. 95 years!! So many of these years giving of herself to those that were around her. Thinking of you all at this time.
Love David & Anna Goode

To Sheila’s family,
Sheila loved sharing stories about living on Empire St. I lived on High Street for a while so there were many collective memories: watching her boys skateboard down the hill, feeding “the gang” cookies, her geraniums and of course, mutual neighbours. There were many frank conversations mixed in there too. Ivy will miss the treats she had to share with Molly!
Our condolences,
Cathy & Ivy (SJA Dog Therapy)
