Dear John:In the middle of August 1975 you interviewed me for a teaching position at Hebbville Consolidated Junior-Senior High School. From that moment on you were a source of inspiration to me as I faced challenges in both my career and in my personal life.I always felt at ease with you and that you were concerned that I succeed. When you finished mentoring me,you always departed, leaving me with your pleasant smile and some encouraging words. You instilled in me hope and faith.Thank-you,John.However,you did have one flaw that I could never quite get you to correct;you were a fan of the wrong NHL team!God bless you,John, and God bless your family. Truly,Rob McMenemy

Dear Mrs. Whitehouse,
I learned this morning that Mr. Whitehouse had passed away. I am so deeply sorry for your loss. The Barron's remember you, John, and your wonderful clan with great fondness. I will let Mum know, although dementia has taken hold, it seems that the "old days" are more readily accessible, so I believe she will remember you all.
Mr. Whitehouse was always so kind and welcoming to us "kids" when we would run around and disrupt as much as we could! I remember when Gil lived out here and we had many reminiscing stories to swap about life in Bridgewater growing up. They were good times.
Please pass along my condolences and love to your family.
Margaret (Barron) and Mum (Vonnie).

I will always remember visits with your family. Early ones were in the Milford, Elmsadale area where he was teaching at that time. It would be a houseful with the 2 families. John would sometimes visit Hilden when he was taking summer courses at NSTC. Visiting Bridgewater was exciting too. Turned loose in a new place with other children. Always welcomed, always enjoyed. I always thought of John as Johnny Whitehouse. He was a lovely man. Holly Peers (Hiltz)

The many qualities of this skilled, humanitarian person are now reflected in the lives of so many who benefited from his caring presence as Shop Teacher, Vice-Pincipal and Teacher Center Leader. An example of support for students in discipline areas was to quietly connect the student with an older student as a big brother to be someone to offer peer support for life issues.
Innovative ways to learn and to bring Quality to every situation was typical of John. His presence made a difference in many lives..and so there are many gifts that we all carry forth in the days ahead.
Our sympathy to Lois and family.

Dear Lois and Family:
Please accept mine and Doris' and our family's deepest condolences on the passing of John. I recall many fond memories with John. At John Martin High School we frequently spent our lunches together sharing a laugh and discussing John's successful hook shot in the Teacher/Student Basketball game. I also recall the drive from Dartmouth to Bridgewater in a large moving van with Paul in the co-pilot seat. We enjoyed our visits to Bridgewater and your hospitality was always joy filled. John was real family man who I admired greatly. Hope you and your family are well and we are thinking of you at this time. Love Charles and Doris

Dear Lois, Gary, Gil,Glenn and Jocelyn:
Condolences from the Toomey family. I remember John with great fondness. He had a pleasant personality and had a positive attitude on life. He was a family man and an excellent teacher and I admired him for that. I also have some fond memories of you two in New Year celebrations past and fireside chats in your sitting room on Scotia St.
The memory of John stirs up some fond memories of times past when we were young and the world was a very different place and we were all looking forward to the future and not being nostalgic about the past.
John and “the way we were” will be missed.
