Maxine Lee

Obituary of Maxine Lee

Maxine (Ivany) Lee - 75, of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, passed away on February 20th, 2021 peacefully in the arms of her husband Ross and surrounded by her family at home.  She is the daughter of Mary (Kane) and George Ivany.  She was born on September 9, 1945 in Trinity, Newfoundland.

Maxine’s number one priority was unconditional love for her family. No one made you feel more loved and special. She always took the time to keep close ties with her Newfoundland family connections.

She was the “Sparkle” in every room with her infectious smile and contagious laughter.  She genuinely went out of her way to bring happiness to everyone she touched.  Years ago, her door was always open to all the neighborhood kids and she was a second mother to many.

She was a wonderful grandmother to eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

She loved Christmas and made it a magical time for her family and friends.  No one enjoyed Christmas more than Maxine.

Maxine and Ross loved their social life with many circles of friends, either entertaining at home or enjoying the hospitality of others.

They enjoyed their summer trips to the “ROCK” with many wonderful family reunions.

They also enjoyed the thrill of travel having experienced several cruises, spectacular winters in the south, toured the Greek Islands and many other memorable trips.

She dedicated her life to raising her children and when she was satisfied that they were safely on their own, she decided she could go to work.  She then took a job at King Street shoes and remained there for 16 wonderful years.  She loved it!

She was very talented at many things including needlepoint and she spent many hours knitting.  To this day, there are many of her Icelandic sweaters still out there.

She volunteered as a Coach with the Junior curlers at the Bridgewater Curling club.

She was an avid curler, golfer (2 holes in one) and she loved to swim.

Maxine loved her church; faith was very important to her.  She enjoyed volunteering her time with the Christmas pudding factory each year.

Maxine’s family and friends meant the world to her.  To them, she was an Absolute “Treasure”.

Maxine is survived by her loving husband, Ross of 58 years; daughters, Brenda, (Tony), Stephanie and Kelly (Keith); sons, Peter (Stephanie) and Mark (Sheila); grandchildren, Vanessa (Tommy), Nicole (Jamie), Heidi (Ryan), Justin, Austin, Mallory, Megan, Carter, Tristen, Madi and Makenna; great grandchild, Summer; sisters Minnie, Myrtle, Sarah (Joe), Diane (Bill); brothers, Irving (Carolyn) and Austin and many nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents, sister-in-law, Linda; brothers-in law, Albert and Don and her beautiful niece Holly.

Memorial donations may be made to the South Shore Hospice Palliative Care Society in her memory. A link may be found at www.southshorehospice.ca.  The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Palliative Care team, SSRH ER and ICU care teams, Dr. Marier, her family doctor of many years and her Pastor Reverend Simon Davies, who she dearly loved. In addition, we want to express our sincere gratitude for the overwhelming support from our family and friends during this very difficult journey.
