I met Mike thru iceboating, and from that moment I knew he was a guy that had a great desire to succeed in the sport. Several years ago he came to PEI and my daughter referred to him as the "noodle man" because he had a very soft mast for a man of his "mass". A couple of years later he was back on PEI, in our Charlottetown Hbr and we had a warm up day of casual racing on Friday. Saturday we returned to the harbour to race and Mike was first rigged boat and off he went to yesterday's race site. Well turns out that was close to the channel and an oil ship had come in and that ice was gone. In Mike's words " I was looking at my sail shape, and looked in front of me and 50 ft ahead there was no ice. My thoughts were , Do I roll out on the ice or save my boat!. So I stay in and saved my boat. He went in, and before we could get out to him, he was out , came ashore a mile away, and on the side walk of our city park he changed into dry clothes, and at the end o f the day he was the last man off the ice. He went on to win a championship in NS after only about 4 or 5 years of sailing. NEVER FORGET YOU MIKE.
Was planning to be there this weekend but a family emergency has prevented that. Condolences to all his family.

A Mother’s Plea
It is with great difficulty that I write these words. To end Michael’s life here on earth is so very tragic and emotionally terminal for us all. A void within my heart, so unexpected, and the necessary closure unfulfilled. At this time, to carry on is almost inconceivable.
Time was not his friend. His wishes, hopes and dreams left unfinished. His friends, he had many, you know who you are. You will grieve his passing forever. He had many who knew his strength, solidarity, love, affection, and kindness. He was always there in times of need and support. Michael’s family and children shall need help and understanding to carry on without him. We can do this.
Promises made, promises broken, leaving us all feeling inadequate and remorseful. Michael would not want any of us feeling guilty, so we must believe in higher powers to make the right decisions. He now has peace. The fury of life has passed.
Michael, may you pass into a restful state under the wings of angels, wrapped tightly around you for comfort. Please accept him within your sanctuary of all the wonders that we all come to at the end of our lives. May Michael rest in the arms of the Lord in perfect perpetual peace and love.
Sheila McNeill

Mike was a wonderful brother and I am devastated to lose him. He was always so kind, supportive, and protective of me, his youngest sibling. I was forever in awe of his adventurous spirit and world travels. I will miss his quick wit and sense of humour. He was the most down to earth person I have ever known and he was always helping others, a truly ‘good guy’. Mikey, I hope you have found peace and know that you are dearly loved and forever in our hearts, xo.

I am so sorry to hear this news. My son is a friend of Mike and Marla's son. One afternoon, Morgan invited Duff to go sailing for an overnight and it was such an adventure. I remember really admiring this family who had taught their children such a love for sailing. My sympathies go out to the entire Webber clan.

I am still in disbelief that this is happening I've attempted to start writing a few words about my dear brother, Mike, on several occasions but grief and sorrow took over. But, he would not want his family to fall apart. He'd want us to remember him for the incredible person he was. And he truly was !
Mike was one of the smartest people I have ever known and he was always teaching me new things. He was so very kind and generous and he always made me laugh ...even if I was just laughing at how amused he was with his own corny jokes. ;-) I routinely talked him up to my friends and co-workers telling them how proud I am of him and his incredible adventures. I'm so grateful for all the time we spent together in our childhood and as adults. He was a good friend holding my hand when I needed comfort and I've heard from so many of his friends and co-workers that he was that way with them as well. I'll love you always, Mikey. xoxo

Mike was a great friend. We went to marine college together. He worked his butt off at menial jobs to pay his way through school. But he was also very quick to drop what he was doing to help a fellow student get through a tough course. A few of us, his college buds, sailed on his boat in races against his fathers boat. Never had a better time. I lost touch with Mike the last few years but Warren and Diane visited me every year in Florida where I now live. He would tell me countless stories of Mike and his family and the pride was always evident. Judging by the comments I have read on this site Mike had a lot of friends. I am not surprised. Mike will be sorely missed by me and all of his college Buds. We are all devastated!

I met Mike iceboating. He had been sailing a few years longer than I have. We would catch up after the races and discuss what happened. Sometimes he'd pass me, sometimes I'd pass him. He also shared some interesting stories about his professional life. I looked forward to seeing his smiling face. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, I didn't get a chance to see him this year but did think of him. When I saw the sad new on FB, it immediately brought tears to my eyes. Much love and light to his family. RIP Mike. I am sorry we didn't get a chance to catch up. I had a lot of news to tell you about my iceboating progress. May your memory be eternal. Fair winds my friend. You will be missed.

I knew Mike from the iceboating world- Just about every iceboater you meet has some kind of interesting job, hobby, trait, quirk.... And Mike was no exception!
His stories left even veteran sailors slack-jawed. Just amazing. And always told with flair, a grin, and somehow a bit of humility.
We will all remember him as a big guy, with a big personality and a big presence wherever he was.
Sail on Mike.... We will miss you something awful.

I worked closely with Mike for eleven years and at each turn he enriched my own life. Always keen to excel and to remedy any problem with efficacy and his own characteristic "good cheer". I have known no greater man. To me, he was like a brother, uncle, colleague, shipmate, and ship co-manager. We shared many interests including sailing, fishing and the great outdoors. Mike was talented not only as a remarkable First Class Motor Marine Engineer but in an unimaginable list of trades and skillsets. He was determinedly "solutions oriented" and could literally make anything work. He was a strong leader on and off his ship and was always ready to extend a helping hand to others. He was also a "World Class" ice boat racer and was passionate about building and racing his iceboat in the winter months. Mike was above all a "family man" who took great pride in his children and their own journeys. I will, like most who knew him well, always miss him greatly.

Ontario-born, I started sailing around 1960 but I started international iceboat racing only a year before Mike did. To my chagrin he was soon beating me, especially when the wind picked up, but we always had a grand time together on the ice and off. I vividly recall his particular glee the day he first “made it to the left side of the results page”, as he put it (meaning he got in the top ten). His enthusiasm was absolutely infectious and never dimmed. One of the nicest people I ever met. He will be very deeply missed by all DN racers as one who stood out even in a great community of enthusiasts.

I need to share a particular photograph to show how dearly important Michael was. He was ‘ MY twin’. There were very few photographs during the early part of this generation. Because this photo was taken, it shows the magnitude of the importance and love for Michael.
I cherish my memories of you. You grew up to be such a wonderful father, going out of your way to make sure your children had a wonderful childhood. You knew your children were your most precious gift, without hesitation taking time just for them. From reading little cardboard books, to instilling the pride of our country by hoisting little ones to your shoulders above the crowds so they could see the musical ride or getting up before sunrise so the children would be there for the launching of Theodore Tugboat. You worked so hard, self sacrificing so your family were well provided for. Mike you knew the love of family as only those who were blessed with Nanny and Papa ( Granddad to you ;) could ever know. You chose Nanny‘a day to be welcomed into her loving arms for eternal protection.
