Lillian Ryder

Obituary of Lillian Muriel Ryder

Lillian Muriel Ryder (nee Veinote)

June 16, 1924 – September 14, 2021

Lillian passed away peacefully at age 97 at Harbour View Haven in Lunenburg. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward; daughter, Kathy; parents, William A. Veinote and Waity (Demone) Veinote; sisters, Leila, Pearl, Beatrice, Ruby and brothers, Basil, Cecil, and Frank. Lillian is survived by several nieces and many great nieces and nephews.

Lillian was born on 2nd Peninsula and grew up on the family’s Sunnyside Farm where she often helped her father deliver milk to Lunenburg residents. She and Edward were married in St. John’s Anglican Church in Lunenburg on August 22, 1951. Ed and Lillian lived in Dartmouth and then settled in Pleasantville in 1980. Lillian worked in banking for 35 years, 25 of which were at the Bank of Montreal.

Lillian and Ed embraced their community and church, and their home was a hub of social activity where adored family and friends would drop in for a visit. All visits were accompanied by a meal or tea and treats. Lillian was a bundle of energy in the kitchen, and she was renowned for her meals and delicious baking which she shared and often delivered to others.

Lillian was loved by many, and she will be remembered as someone who was thoughtful, generous, warm, and caring and who reached out to help others in their time of need.

A special thank you to the staff at Harbour View Haven in Lunenburg for their kindness and excellent care.

An invitation only (because of Covid restrictions) memorial service will be held on September 27, 2021, at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Bridgewater with Rev Simon Davies officiating.

If you wish, donations in Lillian’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or the charity of your choice.
