Obituary of Maurice "Sonny" "Jim" James Fancey

FANCEY, Maurice “Sonny” “Jim” James – Age 82, of Bridgewater, passed away peacefully at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, on Saturday, November 6, 2021. Born August 6, 1939 to late parents, Maurice and Marjorie (Zwicker) Fancey.

Maurice was a proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces for 27 years, serving as part of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Corps. After retirement he worked for the recreation department for Municipality of Lunenburg for 10+ years. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Bridgewater, a member of the Central Nova ATV Club, and a member of the Bridgewater United Church. Maurice was born in Berwick, N.S. but grew up in Upper Northfield, one of 10 children.

He is survived by his wife, Ingeburg (Franz) Fancey; daughter, Tracey (Chris) Hartman; son, Raymond (Debbie) Fancey; grandchildren, Melissa (Graham) Fancey, James (Christina) Hartman, Jason (Jennifer) Hartman; 4 great-grandchildren, Natalie, Ragnar, Oliver and Huxley; siblings, Betty Ann (Reg) Chapman, Fred (Anne) Fancey, Bonnie (Bruce) Joudrey, Mary-Lou Seamone, George (Carolanne) Fancey, James (Brenda) Fancey, Joy (Cedric) Hubley. He was predeceased by his sister, Kaye Mailman and his brother, Lloyd Fancey.  

Sonny always had a smile on the ready and always had a great story to share. He loved to laugh at a good joke and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Arrangements entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bridgewater United Church, Royal Canadian Legion in Bridgewater, S.H.A.I.D.
