My sincere condolences to the Bolivar family. I grew up in Dayspring and called Bruce’s parents Uncle Walter and Auntie Marion, as they were good friends of my parents Cecil and Mildred Johnson. My Mom played cards with Joan and they called their card playing foursome The Golden Girls.
May your happy memories of Bruce comfort you now and forever.

Dear Bolivar family,
I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Bolivar's passing. I always enjoyed my visits with him and learning all about rug hooking. He will be missed.
Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,

I ordered a Bolivar cutter for my wife from Bruce in November 2019. With the lengthy order time, I knew it was going to be quite a wait. I phoned Bruce a couple of times in 2020, just to stay in touch and make sure we were still on his list. He thought we would have it by Christmas, but that deadline passed. By then, we chatted every couple of weeks. He was always friendly and we briefly discussed the weather, etc before his assurance that it would be ready soon. In February of 2021 my wife and I went away for 2 days and returned home to find that Bruce had left 3 messages! The cutter was ready….did we still want it? I nervously called him right away and was hugely relieved to hear all was well. We received the cutter a week later and joined the happy family of those who enjoy the smooth operation and elegant look of Bruce’s famous cutter. On behalf of these Bolivar owners, our sincere condolences to Bruce’s family on his passing.
With thanks, Kathy & John McCallum, Guelph, ON

I am sorry to hear of Bruce's leaving this world. He was my cousin once removed. I visited him with my sister just 3 (or 4) years ago and thought he was such a lovely person. Someone else here said he was a true "gentleman" and that is so succinct. I'm sure he will be greatly missed by all that knew him. My deepest condolences to his family.

So sorry to hear of Bruce's passing. My husband and I went to yoga for years with Bruce. He was very mild spoken and had a wonderful dry sense of humor. Another kind soul has left this world.

I was very sorry to hear of Bruce's passing.
Through the years, I met Bruce many times while visiting my sister Barb and Gaye (Joan's brother). He had a dry sense of humor and could always make you laugh. I will remember Bruce as the truest "Gentleman" that I have ever known, he just had that way about him.
Deepest Sympathies to the family..

We were cousins, once removed. My grandmother, Hildred Bolivar was Bruce's aunt (sister to his father, Walter) and my Dad and Bruce were cousins. In the past few years, I had the pleasure to visit with Bruce in Dayspring on a couple of occasions. One of the visits was to pick up several Bolivar cutters to bring back for my rug hooking group in Barrie, Ontario. A year later, my sister and I stopped in to visit him. He shared family stories and took us on a Cemetery tour of passed family members. His community, friends, neighbors and family will miss him. As will rug hookers all over that use the Bolivar Cutter.

Dear Family
We are very sorry that Bruce is no longer with us. He was a very good man with a great sense of humor. The Bolivar cutter is his legacy in the " hooker" world and he always chuckled when talking about how much hookers loved him. A small statured man with a big heart. RIP.
