I met Parker when I joined the Bridgewater card club a couple of years ago. He didn't know it, but I had a soft spot for him because he reminded me of my own fisherman father, deceased in recent times. His kind ways, his interest in gardens and the water, his way of talking to me. The picture of him standing in the stern while driving the boat - how familiar. And his bowed legs - something many fishermen have. He always spoke fondly of his dear lady Marjorie. Spoke well of his daughters, showing me his latest duds picked up from Frenchies by one of the girls. He was a man who loved cats, always the sign of a tender male heart. I really benefitted personally from having known that dear man who never gave up and never complained about what life dished out. Astrid Gunnarsson

"For a Willing Mind Nothing is Impossible". My thought when I think of Parker ~ an amazing adventurous spirit. I met Parker via my 'big' sister Marjorie Loughead. Marjorie and Parker were blessed to become companions in the gentler years of their lives after both of their life-long spouses passed. Parker and Marjorie never stopped! They travelled the Maritimes, Ontario and enjoyed summer during winter far south of our Nova Scotian waters. Oh and the dinners/suppers at Bell Island and Riverport were not to be missed -- of course Parker's never ending of supply of fresh lobster was such an exquisite treat. I do recall fondly one chilly evening after a feast with Marjorie at the cooking helm and Parker providing the divine seafood--Parker and his little feet in wool socks jigging to Nova Scotia fiddle music on the kitchen hardwood floor. It was a delight to experience this. I will never forget you teaching me to make Nova Scotian Solomon Gundy in your Bell Island 'Fish Shack". I have never tasted better. Happy Sailing Parker, you made the world a kinder, brighter and compassionate place. You are missed.

Our condolences to the Himmelman family.
We were so sorry to hear of Parker’s passing. He was such a nice man with a great sense of humour especially when telling one of his stories. It was a Christmas Tradition for my husband, Murdoch and his brother in law, Dave to travel from Hammonds Plains to Parker’s to get lobsters. Every time they returned they’d say how much they enjoyed their visit with him. He was always glad to see you. A good friend of our family for many years, he will be sadly missed.

To The Himmelman family
We want you to know how much Parker was loved and admired by our entire family. How much we appreciated his tender devotion to Marjorie in the years that they shared. We look back fondly on all the jovial moments we spent in Parker’s company, and often reminisce about his warm and welcoming nature, the engaging Maritime yarns that he spun, his unique ‘Parkerism’ phrases that always made us smile. A hearty and stalwart presence whenever we were lucky enough to visit with him, Parker enriched our lives in so many beautiful ways. One of our friends once said that she loved listening to him so much, she wished she could carry him around in her pocket. Parker embraced life to the fullest and spread mirth and kindness. We feel fortunate to have been a part of his wide circle of friends and will miss his sprightly presence in our lives. Wishing you all peace and hope, and may your many happy memories sustain you.
Deb & Dan Loughead and Family
Parker changed our lives, and our mother’s life. An incredible experience. Parker called me 2 weeks before passing, another great chat. He ended our conversation with “I just wanted to hear your voice.” What a gentleman. Parker’s work ethic was impressive. Mother’s four boys, some of her grandsons and Parker cutting firewood. What a summer event!
Chip & Pat Loughead and family
Parker was one fine man. We have many fond memories, some from our visit with the boys to his place two summer ago, and he was so accommodating with our grandsons. He always asked about Jennika and Josh when I would call him just to say hello. We certainly had some fun times when he visited us in Ontario.
Parker was left to drain the water off my pool blanket, it was almost time to open the pool! I always drained the clear water back into the pool then drained the brackish water onto the grass. I had a dentist appointment and the appointment ran late. TOO LATE because Parker got all the water off the pool blanket straight into the pool. My bad for not explaining, thank goodness for chlorine!
Wally & Marg and family
It was an honour and a pleasure to get to know and be with Parker. He was a kind, generous, gentle, soul. We so appreciated what our mom and Parker shared together. Visiting him on the island was always fun. He took us clamming one day. Standing, as always, in the stern, a marvel for me. He always had lobster for us, what a treat. He will be sorely missed. Rest well Parker, you've earned it.

Melvin, Susan, Barbie and family,
I just heard you lost Parker and my thoughts go out to you all. What a great run he had! Parker was a huge part of my younger years and I have so many fond memories of him and in particular the times I spent alone with him fishing. I always thought I loved being on the water but I think it was more about spending time with him.
About two years ago, on a trip back from Alberta I brought my family to meet Parker and what a great visit we had. Still from time to time my children mention the visit to the island and his name, and that was the type of impact he had with people.
Shedding a huge tear as I write and so wish I could attend his service and see you all.
Take care and all the best!

Dear Melvin, Susan and Barbie, my heart is heavy with sadness for your loss which is a great loss. I met Parker forking seaweed at Freeman’s Beach 10 years ago. Since that day Parker and I became best friends. We spent many hours gardening , mending deer fencing, cutting wood, and spending time fixing tools, gear and machinery. We had a great road trip to Wayne Maine to visit his good friend and summer neighbour Anne over Thanksgiving whereby we shared a good laugh every time we got lost. Parker being the natural navigator that he was invariably got us back on course and on our way again. Parker taught me so many things and gave me a wonderful window into the historical life on the lahave islands that I will always keep with me. It was a privilege and an honour to have been his good friend. Lise Bell

Carol and I are very sad to hear of Parker’s passing. We’ve only known Parker for about three years, having met him at the card parties, but he was so kind and friendly that it made us feel like we knew him for much longer than that. We became instant friends and enjoyed his company so much. The card parties will never be the same without him and we will miss him greatly. We want to express our sincere condolences to Parker’s family.

Parker was a real friend.
When we moved to his island as neighbors, he and Helen came to us, greeted us warmly and gave us as a welcome present of wonderful cod.
They invited us to fantastic food with delicious, fresh fish. Through Parker I got to know and love fish and lobster.
When Jochen worked at the house or on his boat, he gave him good tips.
We were also lucky enough to meet Parker's mother Florence. They were the best neighbors!
When Helen passed away, Parker always spent his life in a good mood with his cat Nikki and we saw each other for many more years.
Parker belonged to Bell Island like no other for me and I find it very sad not to “see” him in his house anymore.
