Obituary of Faye Victoria Bassett

Faye Victoria Bassett

May 22, 1938-September 9, 2022

It is with profound sadness that the family of Faye Victoria Bassett announces her peaceful passing at the age of 84 in the Dartmouth General Hospital on Friday, September 9, 2022. Born May 22, 1938, in Bridgewater, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Mildred (Conrad) Smith.

Faye will be lovingly remembered, and greatly missed, by her beloved husband of 65 years, Bob (Robert), who lovingly cared for her over the years as she suffered debilitating pain from arthritis. She will be dearly missed by other family members including daughters, Heather (Gary), Sonia (Duncan), Nicolette (Darryl); grandchildren, Danielle (Chris), Chelsea (Kyle), Jeffrey, Gregory (Katie), Mark, Brandon, Olivia; great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Hannah, Hollis, Myles, Jace, Janaya; many nieces, nephews, and friends; sister, Claire. In addition to her parents, Faye was predeceased by her brothers, Vance (Florence), Merville (Juanita); sisters, Otella (Alton), Margaret; brother-in-law, Wilson; cousin, Bob.

Faye grew up in Broad Cove, Lunenburg County, and met the love of her life, Bob, at a fair in Bridgewater; she pointed him out and told her friend “I am going to marry him”… and the rest is history. Faye and Bob eventually moved their family from Broad Cove to Dartmouth but kept their house in Broad Cove to use as a summer home. Faye never worked outside the home but instead invested her time in taking care of her family and home.

She had a deep love and affection for all animals especially the many cats she and Bob had over the years, often taking in strays. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family including weekends in Broad Cove; numerous vacations to Disney with family and her stays at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge; fun vacations with family to the Quarterdeck Resort and the Oceanstone Seaside Resort; many trips to Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick; and many overnight stays at Nicolette & Darryl’s house and just having silly fun with Brandon and Olivia.

Special thanks to Dr. Kenneth Cameron and the wonderful staff of the Dartmouth General Hospital for their compassionate care during these challenging times. Many thanks also to the amazing employees of the Victorian Order of Nurses and Northwood Homecare who supported Faye during her last year at home.

Cremation has taken place under the care of Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Friends and family are invited to share their memories of Faye during a public visitation on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, from 2-4 pm, in Sweeny’s Funeral Chapel, 35 York Street, Bridgewater. A private family burial will follow at a later date in Forest Hill Cemetery, Broad Cove, followed by a Celebration of Life for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nova Scotia SPCA. On-line condolences and messages may be made by visiting: www.sweenysfuneralhome.com
