Obituary of Hazel Mildred Parent
October 31, 2022, Hazel M. (Anderson) Parent exchanged the mortal for the immortal, the physical for the spiritual and heard the words: “well done thy good and faithful servant enter into the joy of thy master.” Born on September 26, 1926, to Percy Anderson (born in Amherst, N.S.) and Annie (Fader) Anderson (born in St Margaret’s Bay N.S.). Hazel experienced sorrow early in her life with death of her father.
Hazel was the middle daughter in a family of three girls, and a younger brother. Her mother provided for the family in the middle of difficult financial circumstance. Hazel excelled in school and decided for her post secondary education to attend Gordon College in the United States, where she met her husband to be, Hazen Coles Parent of St. John, N.B. Together they felt called to serve God as missionaries in Bolivia and South America where Hazel served with distinction in outreach, literacy, and evangelism programs. Upon her and her families return to Canada, she obtained her Divinity Degree at Acadia Divinity College and served as a chaplain in the Nova Scotia penal system where she was respected and loved by both staff and inmates alike.
Hazel and Hazen had two children who died early, Linda Beth who died at age 2 and Hazelita who was delivered stillborn. They adopted with great love three children, Gregory (Montreal), Mark (Margie) (Canning), and Carol (Jeff) (New Germany). She was the “Nana” of nine grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren.
There will be a private family committal at a later date.
