Les and family,
Please accept our belated condolences on the passing of dear Cindy. She was a wonderful and talented woman, which you all know best. John and I were so pleased we got to see you both when you visited St. John’s two years ago.
I also had the honour and pleasure to sit through a reading of Cindy’s poems, which she was kind enough to do for one of our girlfriend get togethers . I have her booklet of poems as a lovely reminder.
Take care of yourself

Dear Les, Nancy and family,
I was so sorry and shocked to hear of Cynthia's illness and death. She was a wonderful friend, a shining present, original, empathetic, always ready to laugh--and to travel. We met in the Santiago airport on the way to Barry Dempster's writing workshop. I was weaving my way through the crowd, and somehow, I stopped to talk to her and said I was on my way to a writing workshop--it was a long way to go to write a poem. She said she was too--what were the chances? The workshop was transformative--but we were all scared to death at the beginning, and Cynthia made the group much better. I'd guess she always made groups much better. Nancy, she was so proud of your growth as a paper artist, and I loved seeing your work grow. Cynthia was a shining, generous presence, and she will remain alive in my heart. Sympathy to her family and many friends. Support to those who are working on collecting her poetry into a book.

Dear Les, Nancy and family,
I was so sad to hear from Gen, fellow poet, about Cynthia's sudden illness and passing.
Cynthia was such a beautiful person and poet. Always with such joy and grace, generosity. Quick with a smile and kind word. A wonderful poet.
Look forward to her coming book and honoring her and her words.
May you find some space and softness at this difficult time.
My heartfelt condolences and love, Nanci Lee

I am gutted to learn of Cindy's passing. But not surprised to learn she did it on her own terms. There are not many people I have known since kindergarten and I was looking forward to connecting with her and Les on my trip to Nova Scotia in September. Les, and family, I send much love and admiration.

It was with shock and sadness that I learned of Cindy's recent passing especially after having just seen you folks at Garth's celebration of life. That get together brought back so many old memories of the days at Sunlife and the annual branch parties. I am glad I had a chance to have a brief talk with you two. Thinking of you ,and the family. To Les and Family.
Les, you and I grew up as childhood friends living practically across from each other and then Cindy became a friend and classmate in high school. My heart is broken to read that she has passed. A kinder, sweeter person would be hard to find. It was so good seeing her again at our reunion where we talked about how great it was to see everyone after so long and how the classmates that had passed were missed. It is a journey that we all will take and Cindy was brave to choose how she left this world on her own terms. Kev and I were just talking about how difficult losing our loved ones can be. He said the give his condolences to you children as well as he taught all of them. Just so hard to take in right now. She will be missed ! Hugs to all of you! Terry and Kevin Sharpe

All the good metaphors and similes describe Cynthia, but the bad ones can't describe my loss because I am left with such gratitude for having had time with her.
When we wrote together and read excerpts aloud, Cynthia would smile and look sidelong as though what she had just heard was almost too good. It wasn't, but she made me want to 'write up' to her evaluation.
I had hoped this would go on: I wasn't finished with her.
(The gene for smiling is strong in the French family: Cynthia and Les gave it to their children and all use it so well.)
She arrived in my life surrounded by light, and it's still here.
Love to Les and all her family. --Jan Hull

Jeannie and I were sorry and sad to learn of Cindy's illness and her brave MAiD death. Les and Cindy were good friends of my sister, Janet Squires, and her husband, Jordy; and we became friends of theirs as well. After they moved to Nova Scotia and stayed in touch through Christmas cards and occasional in-person get-togethers over the years.
We remember Cindy fondly as a warm and friendly person who brightened up a room when she visited. She was a positive and interesting person who will be sorely missed.
We offer our condolences to Les, Steve, Sue and Nancy and their children, as well as Kathy (of whom I have happy memories of our early tennis days at Riverdale).
We're thinking of you and wishing you well as you celebrate Cindy's wonderful life.

Dearest Les, Steve, Sue and Nancy,
As I sit here thinking of all of you a million beautiful memories from a childhood spent together flood me. Cindy was truly my "other Mother" and provided me with so much support, love and encouragement throughout my life. Cindy always made me feel special and regardless of my age she never stopped calling me by my childhood name, Meggie. Her joy was infectious and her smile brightened all those around her. The love Cindy had for all of you was endless. Sending you all big hugs and lot's of love.

Les and Family,
We have lost a good friend, and the world has lost a beautiful person. The Obituary was written thoughtfully, beautifully, and with love. So many memories of time spent with both of you, crazy times, great conversations, and times of four friends sitting comfortably enjoying a moment. Cindy was a person who fits the definition of " A life well lived", and that is how we will remember her.
Our love to you all from Aubrey And Eleanor.

Les and family. It is with shock and sadness to learn of Cynthia's passing, such a gifted lady. Her smile would light up places she entered. Her graciousness and positive attitude was an inspiration to those she came in contact with. Where ever her light is today, you can rest assured that she is carrying out her journey the same way she did here on earth by bringing smiles, energy and joy to those surrounding her. I offer you and your family, my sincere condolences..

Cynthia is a beautiful, bright light and made me smile every time I saw her. Full of vigour and joy. It was an honour and deep pleasure to experience yoga with Cynthia in my class and also have a connection with her off the mat too. She was curious, interesting and interested. Open and kind. I always felt at ease and accepted in her presence. It's with fondness that I remember a very special Easter in 2009, when our girls were wee and Cynthia and Les had invited us to their beautiful home on the lake and she had prepared a scavenger hunt for our girls and their two sweet grandsons, Aiden and Liam, visiting at the time with their dad Steven. They followed her around the house like baby ducklings and loved the excitement of finding things around the house that she had hidden for them. Cynthia appeared to be having the most fun and generously shared with the kids her child-like sense of wonder that is eternal. Cynthia always put a special sparkle on everything she touched whether that be a yoga pose, her breath, her humour, her smile, her poetry, her genuine kindness to others or her delicious pie crust. I feel blessed to have known Cynthia and her loving husband Les and by extension their wonderful family that she spoke of so fondly. Through all these connections and more, I will continue to appreciate and rejoice in the loving and inspiring memories of such a great Lady!

Cynthia was always generous with kind words, warm smiles and keen attentiveness. It was a great pleasure to meet with her once a week 8 or 9 years ago in an advanced poetry workshop I taught at Saint Mary's (which also included other South Shore poets, E. Alex Pierce and Jan Barkhouse). Cynthia was a modest, cheerful open-minded friend and member of the Nova Scotian poetry community. May her words live long in memories and in her published works.

This is wonderfully written. Thank you! When I telephoned our mutual friend, Babo Kamel, she said 'The best was seeing Cynthia blossom' -- as the poetry came to her and she embraced the challenge. She did. Blossom. Wonderfully -- from the journey to Chile (where Les joined her) to Banff and beyond, her circle of poets and writers grew and flourished along with her work. And she worked with some of the best: Stan Dragland, Beth Follett, Don McKay, Barry Dempster...Cynthia was the best of friends. Our long and deep conversations hung in mid-air; we laughed always and often; we swore magnificently; we loved prosecco, white wine, G &Ts, good Scotch on occasion, and pots and pots of fresh-brewed tea. Her book, Barachois, is worthy of publication and I will stir myself to do something about that. I loved Cynthia with all my heart -- and the love doesn't die.
