Obituary of Victor Llewellyn Oickle

OICKLE, Victor Llewellyn – Age 86, of Lower Northfield, passed away peacefully the morning of Monday, December 18th, 2023, in his hospital room at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in the Dawson Memorial Hospital, Bridgewater, he lived in numerous places in Lunenburg County while growing up. Victor followed his older brothers to Vancouver. B.C., when he was 19 and worked in the forestry industry before he came back to Nova Scotia, where he met his wife and got married in 1963. They then moved to B.C. in 1967, where they raised their daughter for many years, before moving back to Nova Scotia to be with ailing family and settled their family here. No matter how long they lived in Nova Scotia, their hearts have been and always will be, in British Columbia.

Victor was predeceased by his parents Enos (1901-1984) and Elsie (Oickle) (1906-1977) Oickle; brothers, Vernon (1928-2003) and Enos Doran Jr (1930-1981); his in-laws Archibald (1889-1985) and Elizabeth (Westhaver) (1913-1954); brother-in-laws, Kenneth (1935-1974), Fred (1936-1988), and Harley (1952-2021); niece, Tina (Fehr) (1964-2017). He leaves behind his wife, Grace; daughter, Vickie (Paul) Wagner; grandchildren, Daniel (Danika) Wagner, Krystallum Wagner, David Wagner, Klarrissa (Josh) Richard; brother-in-law, Harold (Joan) Slauenwhite; great-grandchildren, Hailey, Abigayle, Zoey, Neely, Isabelle, Adrienne, Adalynne, Ruby; and several nieces/nephews, great-nieces/nephews and great-great nieces/nephews.

Victor was a man of many hats and known by friends as “Mickey” and to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as “Bang”. He was always a man on a mission, who was never slowed by illness. A few months ago, he was bothered by shoulder pain that would not let up. A few weeks ago, hospital scans identified that he had a tumor, tests were performed and confirmed a cancer diagnosis. Everything happened quickly and while the family and Victor waited for a treatment plan, he passed away.

Cremation has taken place according to Victor’s wishes. Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. No flowers by the family’s request. Donations in memory of Victor may be made to the IWK Childrens Hospital, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
