Obituary of Pauline Claudia Cook
COOK (WAGNER), Pauline Claudia – on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, we sadly said goodbye to Pauline Claudia Cook; a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Pauline was the love of Carlton’s life and a proud mother of seven children; Darlene (Michael McKean), Bev, Claudia (Blair Wentzell), Cathy (George Brown), Barbara (Peter Corkum), Vernon (Christine McCarthy) and Brian. She is survived by a brother, Gary; sister, Sherry; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She enjoyed all visitors that stepped in to say hi and give a hug.
Pauline came into this world on February 17, 1940, to the parents of Oran and Thelma Wagner. She worked many jobs and was always a caregiver. Carlton came along and swept her off her feet and thus began their married bliss in 1959. Mom always relayed the story of how they cleaned out the old farmhouse to move in and share with Mark and Charlie.
Mom raised us children and ran the farm while Dad worked away during the week. She was our hero, mentor, and a strong determined lady. Over the last few months, she has shared many old stories - stories are great memories.
Mom and Dad had a great life in Lower Branch running a farm and helping all the neighbors when needed. Mom would welcome anyone who arrived at the house. Tea and homemade bread were always available.
Pauline was a talented crafter, knitting hats, mittens, socks and sweaters for us all to wear. She quilted many quilts and hooked rugs to sell. In her later years she took pleasure in doing puzzles and word searches.
She could patch up and fix everything. One memory we have is how she patched Dad’s overalls until they were nothing but patches holding them together. Oh, and one other thing was how she fixed Dad’s pants as his belly got bigger she would add a piece of material to the waist band to make them fit.
Dad made their last years easier by building a new bungalow close to the farm. Mom loved this and often commented how grateful she was to Carlton for giving her this home.
Pauline was predeceased by her husband, Carlton; her parents, Thelma and Oran Wagner; sister, Frances; brothers, Keith, Boyd, Ronnie and Beverly; son-in-law, George Brown and two infant grandchildren.
The family would like to thank EMS for their many visits and trips by ambulance to the hospital. Thank you for the great care and kindness at the emergency unit of South Shore Regional Hospital. You all made this hard time a little easier.
Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Hillside Cemetery, Branch LaHave. A reception will follow in Mom’s house. Donations may be made to South Shore Regional Hospital or a charity of choice.
