Obituary of Joanne Lynn Selig

SELIG, Joanne Lynn (Merrett) - With deep sadness we announce the passing of Joanne Selig, age 53, of Bridgewater.  She is survived by her husband Todd Selig, of Bridgewater; and two daughters, Brett (Kaleigh) Bennicke, of Yarmouth; and Mackenzie Selig, of Bridgewater. She will be forever missed by her siblings and large extended family. She was predeceased by her son, Morgan; and her parents, Gerald and Lillian (Patterson) Merrett.

Joanne’s bright smile and loving personality was evident anywhere she went. She would often be found in conversation with friends and strangers alike. She fulfilled her love of others through several service jobs before returning to school, and training as a Personal Care Worker, which led to her working with the Support Services Group. Joanne had a deep love for her work and great respect for her clients, who always held a special place for her.

A wonderfully creative person, Joanne enjoyed cake decorating, tole painting and calligraphy. She loved to share her talents with her family and friends. She was especially happy when spending evenings with friends, playing cards, sharing food, and playing music.

Joanne battled leukemia for the past 3 years. Thanks to the nurses and physicians who cared for Joanne throughout her difficult illness. A special thank you to the staff at SSRH and Ryan Hall, many of whom were as much friends as caregivers throughout her time there.

A memorial service for Joanne will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday March 14, 2024, in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater, with Rev. Dr. Aaron Kenny officiating the service. No interment. Although flowers are accepted by the family, memorial donations in lieu of may be made to the Health Services Foundation of the South Shore.
