Obituary of Rhoda Ann Haines

HAINES, Rhoda Ann - Age 79, of Bridgewater.

1944 - 2024

It is with profound sadness that Wayne, Rhonda, and Stephanie announce the sudden passing of Rhoda Haines, a cherished wife, mother, and grandmother, who left us unexpectedly this year.

Born in 1943 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Rhoda grew up as one of four siblings, with her brothers David (deceased) and sisters Pauline and Beverly, enriching her early years. Rhoda’s commitment to family was evident throughout her life, deeply cherished by her grandchildren Isaac, Gordon, Jessica, and Jacob, who brought immense joy and laughter into her life.

Rhoda's academic journey saw her earning a college certificate from the Nova Scotia Vocational School. In 1964, she married (Wilbert) Wayne Haines and together they embarked on a life filled with love, faith, and service. The couple moved to Bridgewater, NS, where they opened their home to host the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada church plant, a testament to their dedication to faith and community.

Professionally, Rhoda was a skilled stenographer, working with esteemed organizations such as Michelin Tire Company, Maritime Telegraph and Telephone, The Bridgewater Bulletin, and Bowater Mersey. Her career was marked by diligence and a keen ability to connect with her colleagues.

Rhoda had a vibrant passion for the arts, nature, and community. She was an active member of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada, enjoyed classical music, and was a regular at local markets and crafts fairs. Rhoda also had a profound love for reading, particularly true-life stories, which she found deeply inspiring.

Her role as a grandmother was filled with activities; from baking and crafts to accompanying her grandchildren to various activities, Rhoda infused every moment with love and creativity. Known for her sense of humour, Rhoda's funny birthday and Christmas cards were a highlight for family members every year.

An adventurer at heart, Rhoda's travels included a memorable trip to Jamaica with Wayne for her daughter Stephanie’s wedding, showcasing her spirited and adventurous nature. Only a few years ago, she and Wayne enjoyed a family trip with Rhonda and grandson, Gordon.

The family would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thanks for the love and support from everyone during this painful time. A special thanks is also extended to Dr. Coldwell and nurse, Alana, at South Shore Regional Hospital. You will never know how much we appreciated your sensitivity and kindness at a time we needed it most.

Rhoda's legacy of love, laughter, and service will forever resonate in the hearts of those she touched. Her family invites you to remember her life and contributions during visitation, 6-8 p.m, Thursday April 25 at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater. All are invited to the memorial service to be held at New Life Christian Church, 42 Elm Street, Bridgewater, at 1p.m., Friday April 26. Reception open to all afterwards. In addition to flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Society of Canada or New Life Christian Church.
