Obituary of Margaret Anne Cook

COOK, Margaret Anne – It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Margaret Anne Cook, age 84, of Pine Grove, Lunenburg Co., on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, in North Queens Nursing Home, Caledonia, where she had been residing for the past 8 months. Born in Bridgewater on February 17, 1940, she was the first-born child of the late Allister St. Clair and Evelyn Margaret (Gaetz) Seamone.

Margaret had fond memories of growing up on Empire Street in Bridgewater. Her childhood days were filled with playing games with her siblings and neighborhood friends, going to wrestling matches at the arena, and developing her lifelong love for music. In the winter, coasting down her street on bobsleds, skating and watching hockey games at the arena filled her time.

She developed a solid work ethic early on with a part time job during high school on Saturdays and summer vacation at the Steadmans Store on King Street. After high school, Margaret went to the Bridgewater Commercial School where she graduated tied for the top of her class. Not bad for someone who didn’t like studying. After graduating, she got a job at Hebb Motors and then Household Finance up until family came along. After raising her 3 children, she returned to work and settled into her career as bookkeeper at the Bridgewater Farmers Co-op, the career that would take her to retirement. While doing all this she also worked along side her husband on the family farm in Pine Grove.

Music played a significant role throughout her life. She took piano lessons from a very early age and developed into a gifted pianist. Later she learned guitar and started playing and singing in local music “jams” and variety shows. She sang in the church choirs in both the Bridgewater Anglican and United Church for many years. One of her proudest music moments was when she released her CD’s containing Country, Christmas, and Gospel selections.

Family came first and foremost to Margaret, and she engaged in many roles throughout her lifetime. She was a Cub leader, Brownie leader and 4-H leader. Her interests changed as her children grew and made their way in the world. She watched with pride as the grandchildren started to come along and went to many school concerts, sports games and graduations. She often bragged that she had the best-looking grandchildren! She and Everett made many friends through their involvement in organizations like the Bridgewater United Church Happy Gang, Rosedale New Horizons Senior Club, Tai Chi and their many bus trips across Canada and the US. She touched so many lives that it is impossible to include them all here. She lived life to the fullest even as Alzheimer’s was slowly taking her away from us.

Surviving is her husband of 62 years 8 months, Everett St. Clair Cook, Pine Grove; children, Paul (Eva) Cook, Pine Grove; Steven (Lisa) Cook, Hebb’s Cross; Janice (George) Lewis, Molega Lake; grandchildren, Benjamin (Kayla Rhodenizer), Hannah (Elliot Wajchendler), Leah (Ryan) Mercer, Abigail (Thomas Smith), Miranda (Bruce) Heim, Grant, and step granddaughter Courtney Lewis; great-grandchildren, Millie Wajchendler, Maren Mercer, and Martha Heim; her sisters, Janet (Robert) Edwards, Courtenay, BC.; Gail (Michael) Conrad, Baker Settlement;  brother, Cameron (Ruth) Seamone, Petite Riviere; sister-in-law  Ruby Seamone, Bridgewater; along with many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Kenneth Seamone.

The family would like to thank the staff and one on one’s at the North Queens Nursing Home for their care and compassion for Margaret during her final months.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home by request. Service of Remembrance will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at the Bridgewater United Church, 87 Hillcrest Street, Bridgewater. Rev. Neil McEwen officiating. Internment will take place at a later date in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Family flowers only please, donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, North Queens Nursing Home, Bridgewater United Church, or a charity of choice.
