Obituary of Wendy Lynn McLeod

It is with great sadness that we share the sudden passing of the loved Wendy Lynn McLeod (Crouse), on December 3rd, 2024, at home in Dayspring, Nova Scotia.

Wendy was born in Bridgewater, August 7th, 1952. She was the daughter of Agnes and the late Philip Crouse, Dayspring.

During Wendy’s youth she was accomplished in ballroom dancing, excelled musically, and received several awards of achievement in Ballroom Dancing, Adult Vocational Certification in Marketing, Merchandising and Selling, and received her GED later in life. When Wendy’s daughters were born, she made it her priority to be a homemaker for her two girls, Tabitha and Lucinda; Later providing immense support to some of her grandchildren when they needed her. She loved all of her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. How she demonstrated this love looked different for each one of them.

Wendy was a quiet and gentle soul, always checking in on her friends, and never highlighting her own struggles, she kept her feelings close. She found solace during her alone time writing short reflective vignettes, crossword puzzles, knitting, spending time on her deck, feeding hummingbirds, baking, cooking and canning. The warmer growing season months she took great pleasure in the tending to a shared garden with her late father, Philip, whom she adored beyond measure. This brought them both joy, especially during harvest season when they shared their bounty crops with family and friends. They were inseparable during the latter part of both of their lives. Wendy held an enormous amount of love and respect for her two brothers, Kendall and Kirby. Throughout her life, they were always her go-to men, Her superheroes.

For the last 19-years of her life she was a devoted member of the Bridgewater Legion Branch 24. She enjoyed her daily visits with the friendships that she had forged at the branch, as well as when she volunteered with the branch for the annual Poppy Campaign with her lifelong friend Judy (Corkum) Adams. A few names to mention that adored Wendy beyond measure, as she did them, were Donna Massey, Branch Manager, Donna’s mother Sharon and sister Patti, close friend Carolyn Riley, John Kastle, Wyatt Steve, Darren Powers, Doug Teal, Kevin, and Karen. The legion was a safe place to visit almost daily, where she shared stories of her girls, father, and other fond happenings. Thank you all for sharing your love with Wendy.

She was a devoted daughter to her aging parents, Agnes and her late father, Philip. She provided daily meals, errand runs to town, and continual support with the help of her two brothers, Kendall and Kirby; As well as their partners Pamela, Gianna, and families.

Wendy leaves behind her daughter, Tabitha Co, Pictou, brothers Kendall Crouse (Pamela) of Dayspring, and Kirby Crouse (Gianna) Oakhill; grandchildren, Melita Sanford, Jizelle Sanford, Jaren Borden, Benjamin Coleman, and Abigail Coleman; great-grandchildren Karlee and Emilee; niece Marcella (Kendall & Pamela) and nephew Justin (Kirby & Gianna). As well as many other extended family members that will hold dearly the fond memories that they shared with her. Wendy was predeceased by her daughter, Lucinda Sanford-Fraser, and father, Philip Crouse

The family wishes to thank Nurse Practitioner, Krissinda Knickle, Lunenburg Family Health for the kindness, and professional support that she showed Wendy when in need of healthcare.

Wendy will live on through that of her daughter, brothers, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and those that she forged lifelong friendships with. She touched many during her life journey, she appreciated each and every one of them. We wish to highlight her Aunt Carolyn, who was more like a sister to her, and her Uncle Junior Levy. She spent a lot of time with them from her childhood and until her recent passing, from camping trips to many summers with her daughters on Heckman’s Island. This also included her mother and youngest brother Kirby. Her Aunt Dawn and Uncle Frankie, a big adventure to Newfoundland later in life, their cottage on Sherbrook Lake, and her dear best friend, Trudy Moore of almost 40-years. Her neighbours, Judy Adams, Rhonda Corkum, and Edith Naugler - she adored you all like sisters too. She was also grateful for the occasional tech support from Krista Hirtle, and the visits with Krista’s parents.

Cremation has taken place in the care of Sweeny's Funeral Home. There will be a celebration of life for Wendy in the New Year, date TBD. Memorial donations may be made to the Bridgewater Legion Branch 24, Dayspring Cemetery, The Lunenburg Memorial Hospital, Mental Health and Addictions, or a charity of your choice.
