Obituary of Jakah Garret MacDonald

 

Jakah Garret MacDonald - Age 40 of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, passed away suddenly at South Shore Regional Hospital Bridgewater, on Friday, January 10, 2025.

Jake was the precious child of Coleen O'Neil (Tom O'Neil) of Bridgewater and Grant MacDonald (Sherry Shunamon) of Beaverbank, Nova Scotia.

Jake's working career started part-time at CKBW and he later attended UNB to study film and television. Jake had such joy doing background work in film and local theatre. As a creative and sensitive person Jake took great pleasure in writing, photography, gardening in his Petite Jardin or searching for rock treasures with his Mom along the beaches of Nova Scotia. Although all these hobbies meant the world to him, nothing could replace the love and joy and comfort he had spending time with his little companion Rufus.

Jake was an active member of the LGBTQ+ community having been instrumental in having the first Pride Flag raising in Bridgewater as well as a former Board Member of Lunenburg County Pride.

Left to grieve are his maternal grandmother, Catherine Romans, Halifax; step-sisters; Amanda Lipsett (Darren) Bridgewater; Teresa O'Neil (Stephen Mayor), Port Alberni, BC; and half-sister, Sara Paine, Hubley, Nova Scotia.

Thank you for your love and your support Aunt Cathy and Neil, Uncle Ron and Giselle and Aunt Angela. nieces and nephews, Abigail, Keaton, Maddie, Maia, River and Wesley, Jeremy, Daelin and Sam, as well as special sisters, Cherakee Andreson, Colleen Hennan and Amanda Rhodenizer.

Jake was predeceased by sister, Kalah Francis MacDonald, aunts, Colleen and June.

Public visitation will be held 5-7 p.m., Friday, January 17 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater. Private family burial will take place in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. A Service of Celebration to Remember the Life of Jakah will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, January 18 in Bridgewater United Church, 87 Hillcrest Street, Bridgewater. Rev. Neil McEwen and Donna Kelly of West Side United Church officiating. A reception will follow at the Best Western Hotel, 527 Hwy 10, Cookville. Family flowers only, donations may be made to Soul’s Harbour Rescue Mission – Bridgewater or West Side United Church, Pentz.
