Obituary of Robert Gerald Robart

Robert "Bob" Gerald Robart 76, of Bridgewater, formerly of Greenfield, succumbed to cancer on May 11, 2009, after a brief illness. Born January 25, 1933 in Greenfield, he was the son of the late Carmon and Nina (Meister) Robart. Bob served in the RCAF for five years during peace time until marrying Marlene, the love of his life, in 1957. Over the years, he was employed at the Nova Scotia School for Boys, National Sea Products Ltd., and Anil Canada Limited, prior to Bowater Mersey Paper Company (Brooklyn) where he worked in the woodlands department until retirement in 1991 at age 58. An active member of the Greenfield and District Fire Department for 39 years, he could be found planking the salmon at the annual Salmon Supper. Bob loved music– especially gospel songs - and loved to sing. He was a long standing member of the Greenfield United Baptist Church choir and the Greenfield Four (Quartet) and in earlier years he was a member of the SPEBSQSA (Society for the Preservation of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America) frequently traveling and competing. He was an active member of the Nova Scotia Housing Corporation, held positions with the Greenfield United Baptist Church and the Greenfield Recreation Committee, and was a member of the Board of Examiners (scaling). Bob enjoyed salmon fishing, fly tying, hunting, golfing, walking, bowling, cards, tinkering and fixing anything that was broken. Since retirement, he enjoyed weekly flea markets, yard sales and finding a good bargain. He was a loving and proud father and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 51 years, Marlene Beatrice (Goulden), his children, Kathi (John) Vickers, Dartmouth; Daryll (Bob) Lambert, Halifax; Michael (Nadine Hyson), Bridgewater; Sharon (Brad) Bishop, Dartmouth; his much loved grandchildren, Jarett, Emily, Rachel and Colleen; sisters, Roberta (Greenfield), Joyce (Sudbury) and Audrey (Dartmouth), and brother Terry (Saint John). He was predeceased by his parents, infant daughter Tina; siblings John, Vance, and Pauline. A very special thank you to Janet Himmelman and the rest of the wonderful nursing staff at the Queens General Hospital. No visitation by request of family. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held 2pm, Tuesday, May 19 at the Greenfield United Baptist Church, Greenfield, Pastor Dennis Nickerson and Rev. Eric Campbell officiating. Private interment in the Pine Rest Cemetery for family only preceding the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Greenfield & District Fire Department.
